Race course blunder cost Chris Leiferman back to back IM70.3 wins
Unfortunate news for Chris Leiferman. The American was putting up a tremendous performance and was about to win IM70.3 Santa Cruz before being DQ'ed. Chris had a phenomenal bike split and started the run in 2nd place only 14” down the leader. The BMC-Vifit athlete immediately made his move to take over the lead. He opened up a gap of more than 4’ before getting sanctioned in the final 500m of the race. Due to a run course malfunction, Chris unintentionally ran a loop in the wrong direction. He didn’t cut the track so ran the entire 21k, but that didn’t help his case. Unfortunate to end a race this way, but another strong bike-run combination from his side, boosts Chris’ confidence towards Kona next month.
